STRANGE
WORLDS
&
ABSURD
CHARACTERS

My specialty is to write and illustrate entertaining and slightly absurd coming of age comedies starring animal characters who struggle to be their better selves. Eleven of my books have been published to this day.

I also create illustrations for picture books, editorials, book jackets and games and my work has been exhibited internationally.

I am a recipient of a Booktrust Best New Illustrator Award, one of my books has been selected for The White Ravens and my work has been shown at the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition.
Sometimes I teach workshops which I enjoy as it inspires me to be around people. Especially those who want to learn, play and experiment.

I founded and art directed the kids magazine The Loop (2012-2015) together with the amazing
Eleanor Meredith. We also wrote and art directed a Think and Make like an Artist for Thames and Hudson which won the 6-12 yrs category in the Academy of British Cover Design Awards as well as the British Book Design and Production Award for best children’s trade title for ages 9-16 years.

My absolute favourite animals to draw are sausage dogs. When I am not in my studio I can be found horse riding in Griffith Park.

Please get in touch if you’d like to work together or if you like to say hi!
INSPIRATION AND EDUCATION

Growing up in Germany I was a big fan of everything created by Jim Henson, Richard Scarry and Charles Schulz. Maybe that is why I ended up living in the US! I studied design, illustration and screenwriting and I am a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, Kingston University, University College London and University of California Los Angeles. As you can see I can’t get enough of learning and moving. I now live in Los Angeles.

FUTURE

My retirement is all planned out. I’ll start my Phd when I turn 90. Before that I would like to see my characters on TV.
